D.J. John – A Music Timeline

D.J. John’s been a professional D.J. since 1998. But that’s only one important part of the story.

He started guitar lessons (on and off) at age 6.

Like most kids one minute he wanted ot be a rock star the next a professional baseball player. LOL!pic1

At age 10 he got serious about playing guitar and joined his first “pro” band “Strider” by age 12.

By then he had also spent time learning Bb clarinet, Tenor sax, Banjo, Bass and Drums. He even played in a local string band!

(Did we mention kazoo?)

John also started teaching guitar and bass lessons by age 16.

He began playing local dances, nightclubs, weddings and even got to open for a few national acts.

After graduating high school he took 2 years “off” to decide his next move while playing the local club circuit.

John graduated from Wilkes University in 1991 with a B.A. in Telecommunications.

Since then he’s played in several local bands playing Pop, Rock, Country,

Metal, Blues/Jazz and Dance music. And of course…the occasional polka!

John is currently dee jaying, teaching music, working at his recording studio and enjoys playing in his acoustic trio “Cousins”.

Occasionally one of John’s musician friends will ask “why dee jay?”…….John will smile and answer “Why Not ?” “It’s a natural part of all the music already in my life. I play instruments, compose and arrange music, teach music, engineer and record music…why not enjoy listening to and playing it!”

“Besides, it’s really fun to get out on the dance floor with the crowd and do a little dancing too!

That’s hard to do when your stuck behind the guitar or a mixing console!”.
